There are many reasons why I love giving & receiving mix CDs.
one of them is hearing a new song that you like but would never have found otherwise.
Mesmerized by Faith Evans is the perfect example. It’s a terrific song, I absolutely love it, but never in a million years would I have discovered it on my own. Although the name faith evans is vaguely familliar to me, R&B/hiphop/soul isn’t my usual musical playground. this song is a sweet little pleasure of mine, and all thanks to a cool CD mix.
I’m not going to start buying her albums because of this one song, but I will certainly take a listen to some of her others songs, to be sure. exposure is 9/10ths of the law. No that isn’t right. umm, exposure is one in the hand and two in the bush. uhh, exposure is punishable by a maximum fine of $2000 and/or up to six months in prison.
Man, just think of all the awesome music out there that isn’t being heard. It’s a little daunting, but my ears are up for the challenge.

let’s have a mix CD contest! it can be a community bonding experience, with me reaping all the rewards. yay!
Let’s see. Okay, everyone who reads loafe should spend the next few weeks compiling a CD. deadline, we need a deadline. umm. umm. Okay, October 19th. Everyone start making a CD and then send it to me by Oct 15th.
I’ll listen to all of them and then pick my top three favorites by the end of the month. First place will get something cool. 2nd place will get something slightly less cool and third place will get something only a little bit cool.
everyone else will get honorable mentions, which just means your name and playlist on loafe.
I am totally serious about this! It’s a great idea!
But I know that no one will actually do it.

I’d be more than happy to mail you a link to a CD’s worth of cool tunes, but there’s no way I’m burning them to a disc, going to the store, buying a mailer for the disc, going to the post office & buying stamps for the mailer, paying a private detective to get me your address, and mailing you the CD. You’re just asking too much.

I will make you a disc. I won’t put Frank Black’s headache on it though… that’s been done. I got nothing better to do at night. Does this mean you’re going to create a private Loafe PO Box? That would be awesome!

Okay. Everyone can either mail it to me (good idea about the private loafe PO box!) or mail me the songs themselves in mp3 format or, in jonathan’s case, LINKS because he’s a lazy bastard. then I’ll do the judging and the prize awarding.
and there are no limits on the music, Tiffany. I won’t be judging on whether or not it’s music I enjoy, but the overall feel of the CD, the selection and order of songs, how each track makes me feel/think, etc.
So start thinking now, kids. the race is on!
