the christmas spirit
On christmas eve, as we were driving around town, finishing our shopping, we were rear-ended. We have a sturdy Volvo, so there was no damage to our car, with the exception of a bent exhaust pipe and paint scrapes all over the bumper. The offending car, driven by a young, rather dazed girl, was a crappy little geo prism, so she had quite a bit of damage, considering how low-impact it was. Her car was already in bad shape to begin with, pieces duct-taped on. Clearly the girl wasn’t the best of drivers.
Considering it was christmas eve, and there was nothing wrong with our car, we decided to just let her go and not make a big deal of it. She didn’t want to exchange information and rather than drag something quite minor, on our part, into something more, we agreed. Before we pulled away, I double-checked with her, and she said she was fine. So on our merry way we went and I forgot all about it.
Then we get a call the day after christmas from our insurance agent. She took our plate number and must have later called her insurance company. I found that extremely odd, considering she was at fault, but whatever, right? Maybe her parents made her do it. Who knows.
We call the insurance guy back and it turns out this girl is insane. She said that we were driving in the opposite direction, on the other side of the road, and hit her head-on. And that the accident happened on the 23rd. And that I was driving and I had two other men with me in the car (Gordon was driving, and our child was in his carseat, so I guess she’s correct on two people with penises being in the car).
I find it very amusing and also very annoying. I wonder what manner of intelligence this girl possesses. I’m not worried about anything, as all the evidence clearly demonstrates that we were hit from behind by her. And I can probably find witnesses. The reason we were stopped in the first place is the car ahead of us had stopped to let pedestrians cross the street to the church for christmas eve mass. I can always post a notice at the church looking for people who saw the accident. I even made eye contact with them as they stared at us. When you hear screeching tires, everyone looks around for the accident.
So there we were, trying to be nice and not make a lot of trouble for this girl because it was christmas. We should have called the police and waited for them to come handle it all. We were just trying to avoid the hassle, for no good reason other than to be nice. At least there won’t be much argument as to what really happened once the cars are examined.
Stupid girl. I am assuming that she was high/drunk when it happened, or that she wasn’t licensed and/or insured for that car and someone else is now claiming to be driving, or that she’s lying about it to stay out of trouble with her parents, or she’s just nuts. It has to be one of those things, because I can’t figure out for the life of me what she is expecting will happen. I laugh, yet at the same time I want to punch her in the face.
- camcorder or camera?
- how lovely are thy branches
Maybe she is a junkie and needs the money for drugs… Its a shame you did the nice thing…but unfortunately…in this world, to protect yourself and your family, not the right thing.getting a police officer to fill out a police report..
Sorry to hear about it,.
I can’t believe that. Something bad will happen to her for being such a yutz.
wow that totally sucks. you try and be nice, and ya get stepped on. i hope they hang her like saddam.
There’s no reason to choose. Punch her in the face AND laugh.
Man that is crazy… stupid girl. Glad to hear you were all okay… my little Ry Guy
